The Women Buccaneers // Kasi Flavour10 and Black Arrow
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The illustrious lineage of South Africa’s oldest and arguably most formidable football teams is nothing short of excellent. Originally named ‘Orlando Boys’ when it was formed in 1937, the club added “Pirates” to their name after a popular movie in 1940 called “The Sea Hawk”. They’re affectionately known as “the Buccaneers” . Orlando Pirates are the oldest football club in South African soccer and enjoys the adulation of more than 50% of the population in SA.
We collaborated with Kasi flavour10 in collaboration and created a photo series that is inspired by Orlando Pirate’s female fans - a group we feel seldom gets it’s shine. Kasi Flavour10 tailored a cropped Jersey with asymmetric pleated chiffon paired with chiffon wide legged pleated pants, which was created in effort to pay homage to our Bucs Divas across the world. We reinterpreted the two pieces by chopping them up and tailoring them into one hybrid piece -that would be beloved and that is informed with a DIY twist of our ‘Happy People’s ‘ aesthetic and that can be seen and recognised at stadiums on game day. A product we hope will retain the nostalgia of both products whilst also birthing a new hybrid piece that celebrates the best of both worlds.
